15 April 2002 - 11:00am
Joel Connelly writes about urban sprawl and transit issues in the Pacific Northwest.
"...the people who are willing to vote for higher gas taxes are women, greens, young voters between 18 and 35, and the middle- to upper-income urban and suburban folks that Sims calls 'the lake vote.'Sims is blunt about the price of getting this vote. Public transportation -- stuff like buses, van pools, car pool lanes and park-and-ride lots -- must be a big part of any regional Puget Sound package that goes to voters along with the statewide plan."
