South Florida Tri-Rail Could Grow Into Regional System
11 April 2002 - 11:00am
South Florida Regional Transportation Authority could grow from 3-county commuter rail to a regional mass transit system.
"In its new role, Tri-Rail would plan express bus routes and coordinate bus and rail schedules in the three counties, as well as presenting a solid lobbying front to compete for state and federal dollars needed to pay for billions worth of regional transit projects. Initially, commuters could board a bus or train and pay the fare anywhere in South Florida with a single "smart card." They could also call one phone number for help in planning bus or rail trips in the 3 counties."
