Sustainable Critical Infrastructure Planning:
The Engineering Systems and Management Department at the Masdar Institute invites applications for full-time faculty positions in urban and regional transportation planning. Applicants must hold a doctorate in transportation planning or engineering, or an equivalent degree in a related field, and must demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and research aimed at solutions to mobility problems in urban settings.
Candidates are expected to have an active research agenda and practice in one or more of the following areas: Urban and regional transportation planning, logistics, urban form and travel behavior, transportation infrastructure finance, inter-modal transport, transportation risk management, and social and environmental aspects of transport. Other Research interests may include work related to public transportation systems, transportation impacts on land use, transit oriented development, and the influence of the built environment on travel mode choice. It is expected that the successful candidate will have the capacity to teach courses in transportation systems analysis (demand modeling), management of infrastructure systems, comparative land use and transportation planning, GIS applications in urban and transportation planning. The candidate is expected to contribute to the department’s emphasis on sustainability.
Applicants must have demonstrated ability (or strong potential) to develop interdisciplinary research individually, in collaboration with other faculty, and with industry partners. They should possess strong communication skills, and the ability and commitment to teach at the post-graduate level and advise MSc and PhD level students in their research. Innovative teaching methods and curriculum development capability are strongly encouraged. Applicants should have very good interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines. Successful candidates will be expected to seek external funding, engage with local and international stakeholders, and support service and outreach activities at the Institute. The finalist should also possess a commitment to take a leadership role in mentoring graduate students and developing research projects focusing on urban and regional transportation planning and sustainability.
Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, located in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E., is a private, not-for-profit, independent, graduate-level, research-driven institute developed with the support and cooperation of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The goal of the Institute is to develop, over a period of years, indigenous R&D capacity in Abu Dhabi, addressing issues of importance to the region in critical areas such as: renewable energy, sustainability, environment, water resources and microelectronics.
