In the heart of the California Gold Country, Calaveras County (population 46,000) is located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, 133 miles east of San Francisco. Calaveras County is home to a wide variety of distinct communities, each with its own colorful personality and rich cultural history.
The Director of Planning leads the County’s Planning Department and serves as a key member of the County management team. The Department, with an allocated full-time staff of seven positions, is a separate county department operating under the general direction of the County Administrative Officer. The Director will be appointed by the Board of Supervisors. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in General Plan law, the California Environmental Quality Act, the Subdivision Map Act and Planning and Zoning laws, along with knowledge of affordable housing and grant programs.
A minimum of five years of professional level, public agency planning experience, which includes at least two of those years in a supervisory capacity, is required. Equivalency to a Bachelor’s degree in land use planning or a related field is also a requirement. County planning experience and an AICP certification is preferred.
