Replacing the Alaskan Way Viaduct -- a vital commuter link for countless Puget Sound-area residents -- will be one of the most expensive and disruptive road projects in state history.
"Replacing the Alaskan Way Viaduct -- a vital commuter link for countless Puget Sound-area residents -- will be one of the most expensive and disruptive road projects in state history. Whatever the final design, construction could take a decade or more while it snarls traffic, creates dozens of moving detours and possibly forces the removal of buildings and displacement of businesses. State officials say it will be one of the biggest urban transportation initiatives since completion of Interstate 90."
