NY Developer Silverstein Profiled
6 March 2002 - 9:00am
The Wall Street Journal profiles Larry Silverstein, the New York developer who owned the WTC, and is central in the rebuilding effort.
"By luck or design Mr. Silverstein has emerged as the sole brake on the multiplying lobbyists, bureaucrats and sterile planners taking over lower Manhattan. Having someone of Mr. Silverstein's commercial and bulldog propensities on the scene may be the only hope of saving New York from a monumental boondoggle, fueled by $20 billion in federal money... Mr. Silverstein remains the only player involved in the reconstruction planning tethered to the real world of commercial consideration." [Subscription required]
