Philadelphia is the cradle of American liberty, but it's also the attic of the American Civil War.
"The Civil War is arguably the defining event of the American experience. It raises every single important issue for America today: the tensions between our basic principles of liberty and equality, the great sin of slavery and how to redress it, the consequences of invention and innovation, the crucible of immigration and industrialization that helped forge our persistent regional divisions. The old city we see around us is a legacy of the Civil War period."
