Early Bird Registration Rates Expire Soon – 4th Safe Routes to School National Conference

Local Government Commission

The deadline to receive the Early-bird registration rate for the 4th Safe Routes to School National Conference is approaching quickly. Register by June 28th to lock in the reduced rate at www.saferoutesconference.org. Don't miss out on participating in over 60 sessions, seven tours of model projects and programs, networking opportunities, and some exciting interactive features including an on-site Charitable Bike Build.

What is the Charitable Bike Build? - A Charitable Bike Build will be held in conjunction with the 4th Safe Routes to School National Conference and will involve participants in a public service act that will provide several local youth with the opportunity to either own a new bike, or have access to riding a new bike through their involvement in a local youth organization. Conference participants and community volunteers can sign up to spend some of their time during the conference to help build the bikes. At the close of the conference, the fully assembled bikes (along with helmets and locks) will be donated to local youth organizations that have demonstrated their dedication to working with youth; shown the need for bikes amongst the youth that they serve; and have the capacity to manage the distribution and/or use of these bikes.

Donate to the SRTS Charitable Bike Build - The Local Government Commission (the conference organizer) is currently fundraising to purchase a minimum of 25-30 new bikes (for ages 9-17), along with helmets and locks.  Our goal is to raise at least $10,000 through contributions from generous organizations, businesses, and individuals that care as we do about the health and safety of our youth. All donations are tax deductible.

It is so easy to contribute!

  • If you are planning on attending the conference, you can contribute to this fund by checking the appropriate donation box when you register online.
  • If you will not be attending the conference but would like to make a contribution, visit the Charitable Bike Build page at www.saferoutesconference.org/program/bike-build.
  • We will also accept the donation of brand new bikes.

Questions about the SRTS Charitable Bike Build or how you can contribute, please contact Shani Alford with the Local Government Commission at 916-448-1198, ext. 330
