Seattle Residents Weigh Tunnel Replacement Option

The idea of replacing the Alaskan Way Viaduct with a tunnel, built alongside a new Elliott Bay sea wall, is beginning to catch on with Seattle residents.

"The idea of a "cut-and-cover" tunnel -- to be dug from above ground and covered later -- gained strong support from residents who looked at the latest viaduct-replacement options at a public forum last night.'I think it's pretty exciting -- the idea of doing something different,' said Lisa Rutzick of Queen Anne, who supported the tunnel idea in an informal written poll at an open house."
