Utah's Innovative Plan To Fund Transit

Utah Transit Authority officials are using federal tax loopholes to sell the tax benefit of light rail to get funding.

"Utah Transit Authority officials have come up with an innovative scheme to finance the next major expansion of light rail or commuter rail: sell their existing $500 million light-rail system to a private company. While it sounds like a radical approach, the plan is designed to take advantage of federal tax loopholes to generate an immediate $25 million to $50 million cash infusion for mass transit."
