County Considers Curbing Malls, Walled Subdivisions

County Commissioners, Zoning officials,and planners in Palm Beach County, FL, are investigating ways to revise zoning regulations to encourage traditional development.
"After years of saying they want to stop filling the landscape with shopping malls and walled-off subdivisions, Palm Beach County officials are edging toward doing something about it... While planners point to the many appeals of walkable, sociable communities, builders and some county commissioners question how many people actually want to live in one -- especially in a region where gatehouses, clubhouses and plenty of parking have defined the good life."
