Ginger Is Here, But Where's Fred?

The "Segway Human Transporter" was unveiled this week to a mixed response. But inventor Dean Kamen's other transportation device -- nicknamed "Fred" -- is still not available after three years of FDA testing.
"The 'Segway Human Transporter' debuted to cheers and jeers this week. The souped-up scooter disappointed some who had hoped the much-hyped mystery invention would be a revolutionary hot air engine or a personal hovercraft.The Segway is expected to be available to consumers in late 2002. But another, arguably more significant transportation device by Segway inventor Dean Kamen is still in a holding pattern."
