New York's Unbuilt Future

An underground nuke-proof second city, a massive 24-lane bridge across the Hudson, an elevated railway to the Statue of Liberty - these are amongst the futuristic visions for New York City shared by <em>Web Urbanist</em>

In this post, a sampling of the 15 retro-futuristic vision collected by Oobject are detailed. At least one of them actually started construction.

The products of imaginative thinkers in the late-19th to mid-20th century, "each one of these proposals is not just a past vision of the future, but a past vision of the future which is now in the past itself."
