Are Roundabouts Better Than Traffic Signals?

Roundabouts (circular intersections), new to Florida, are proposed for Jacksonville.
City Council members Lake Ray and Lynette Self "have advocated roundabouts in Jacksonville, saying studies show they are safer and move traffic better than standard traffic lights at an intersection. They urged the JTA to build roundabouts on the four-lane Wonderwood Connector being built through Arlington, but the state, which will take over the road after it's done, nixed the idea."
