In Chicago, a Holistic Approach to Bicycle Planning

DOT Commissioner Gabe Klein says that in addition to making bicycles a viable means of transportation, he's also using bike lanes to slow traffic speed and promote active lifestyle.

Former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel pledges to add 25 miles of bike lanes per year during his tenure as the new Mayor of Chicago totaling a 100-mile of bike network.

Itir Sonuparlak reports, "Funded by a federal grant, the Chicago Department of Transportation is installing the half-mile bike lane as a pilot program. The protected bike lanes will have a three feet buffer to parked cars and will be separated by delineated posts."
