City Accused Of Neglecting Poorer Minorities

The city of Winter Park, FL has only spent $10,000 to rehabilitate housing in its predominantly black neighborhood over the past ten years.
Ten years after the city launched a redevelopment campaign that promised better housing and more minority-owned businesses, the residents of the predominantly black neighborhood are still waiting for action. And many accuse their rich neighbors of trying to squeeze them out. So far, Winter Park's Community Redevelopment Agency has spent just $10,000 on housing rehabilitation -- and that was for only one home." Meanwhile, the Winter Park CRA has moved ahead with adding parking garages to the city's upscale shopping district at a cost of $2 million dollars.
