Friday Funny: Take the Kids to Napoleonland

27 January 2012 - 2:00pm

A new theme park dedicated to all things Napoleon has been proposed for the area south of Paris by former French minister and history buff Yves Jégo, and is being touted as a rival to Disneyland, reports Henry Samuel.

Just imagine the joy in taking the kids to see, or even to take part in, daily re-enactments of the Battle of Waterloo.

"Other curious potential attractions include a ski run through a battlefield 'surrounded by the frozen bodies of soldiers and horses' and a recreation of Louis XVI being guillotined during the revolution – the precursor to Napoleon’s rise to power.

"It's going to be fun for the family,” Mr Jégo told the Times.

What the Census will not include is the long-form questions that have, since 1940, asked one-sixth of American households to reveal fine details about their lives. The long form was scrapped following the 2000 Census, so planners who are accustomed to relying on detailed, nuanced Census data to analyze and plan their communities may not get the detail that they expect.
