Houston's Top Issue: Traffic

22 October 2001 - 11:00am

Houston residents says that transit mobility is the top issue in the upcoming mayoral election.

"The three candidates agree on a number of traffic issues: All approve of paying incentives for contractors to work around the clock and beat deadlines, and all three call for better synchronization of traffic signals and use of "smart traffic technology," including the resources of the Houston TranStar traffic operations center. Sanchez says the city should use the research expertise of the Texas Transportation Institute at Texas A&M University to make Houston a "working laboratory for cutting-edge transportation technology." And Bell says that, despite a court ruling against the city's wrecker regulations, the city should take another stab at writing an ordinance that could reduce the number of wreckers rushing to accidents.
