Groundwork For Revitalization Laid in Tornado's Wake

Tuscaloosa's revitalization efforts hope to mend the devastated city by replacing the land opened up by the tornado with walkable village centers, green spaces and community storm shelters, Robin DeMonia reports for The Birmingham News.

Demonia wrties that hopefully the destruction caused by the tornado can be realized as an asset.

"Clearly, the tornadoes and the destruction and the damage were terrible, terrible, terrible things," (Birmingham architect Bruce) Herrington said. "If there's a silver lining in this, it provides us with almost a clean slate, almost a brand new canvas ... It gives the neighborhood and the entire Pratt community an opportunity to dream a little bit and to reach for the stars."
