The "Urban-Vegetal World" of the Future

An exhibit in Paris presents elaborate, lush visions of "La Ville Fertile", or "The Fertile City."

John Thakara visits the exhibition and says it does not disappoint, calling it "a brilliant and coherent spectacle." And yet it seems the proposals, while wondrous, are lacking in some substance:

"My reaction then was although architects are adept when it comes to dreaming about possible futures, their interest tends to wane asked to get their their hands dirty, and feet wet, in the context where their dreams would be built."
