Appropriate Land Use Policy Is Key To A Healthy City

An opinion column urges Detroit voters to examine mayoral candidates' land-use policies.
"As the Detroit mayoral primary quickly approaches, voters would be well-served to focus on each candidate's attention to land-use policy. This underutilized tool can be a powerful weapon in a city's effort to rebuild its neighborhoods. In order to develop and renew the city, the next mayoral administration should work to create, communicate and utilize a comprehensive land-use plan, based upon public input that fosters the ideal of a healthy, livable city. This plan, in conjunction with zoning, code enforcement and development decisions, must guide each and every action the city takes."
