Be Your Own Architecture Critic

John King gives readers the tools to critique plans for the new wing of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art before the designs are released next Weds.

King says that pundits will inevitably write at length about what the new building means for contemporary architecture, but the real measure of success will be how it addresses the challenges of the site:

"...buildings of this nature aren't objects to contemplate in isolation," writes King.

"The measure of success is whether SFMOMA and its architect, rising firm Snøhetta, can spin operational and architectural magic from one of the city's most complex sites."

King goes on to explain the challenges of this infill location, which will meet the street on 3 sides.
