The LEED Silver, Prefab, Quick-to-Build Apartment Building

When one thinks of prefab, its usually a lowslung modernist building sitting by itself on a lot. A group of designers and engineers are debuting a plan for multi-story prefabricated buildings.

The group, Sustainable Living Innovations, says that while the usual apartment building takes 36-40 months from start to finish, this new prefabricated building can be designed and built in 90 days:

"So for the same price as a building featuring a wood frame, vinyl windows, a popcorn ceiling, and an ugly beige carpet, SLI can build a steel-framed building with concrete floor slabs and ample natural lighting, right out of an IKEA catalog."
