A Very Thorough Understanding of a City's Streets

One woman in Lansing, Michigan has started a walking mission to explore and document every stretch of street in her city -- a total of more than 400 miles.

Ariniko O'Meara began walking her native city's streets in October, and hopes the effort will help spark more interest in the city's hidden gems.

"O'Meara is documenting her walks with photos and blog entries in her City Saunter blog, Facebook page and on Twitter. She initially thought the project would take a year, but now thinks she may need two years.

"I hope to pull out a lot of the areas that people just don't know about," she said.

For instance, she posted photos of dinosaur sculptures made of scrap metal at Friedland Industries Inc., a recycling and shredding facility on East Maple Street in Old Town."
