Central Valley Cities Enter Regional Planning Agreement
11 August 2001 - 6:00am
Fresno County and the cities of Fresno and Clovis are celebrating an agreement which they hope will dictate regional growth for the next 20 years and protect farmland.
The county Board of Supervisors and two city councils will consider a final agreement in September. The tentative agreement reached by the three entities will refocus growth in the southern parts of the two cities, emphasizing infill development and neighborhood revitalization while opening up about 17,800 acres outside current urban boundaries. About 12,300 acres, mostly north of the cities, will be closed off by the county as a "study area" free of development. In expansion areas, the cities will share more sales tax with the county.
