Voters Reject Kansas City Light-rail Plan
10 August 2001 - 5:00am
Will light-rail be on the ballot again in Kansas City?
Kansas City voters overwhelmingly defeated a proposed sales tax that would fund a light-rail system. Proponents were on the defensive during the campaign to pass the tax with opposition coming from the area chambers of commerce and residents who feared how light rail would impact their neighborhoods. There were additional concerns about the costs of the system and its merits, which got caught in an ongoing local debate about "basic city services" and capital infrastructure needs.

I am perfectly willing to risk the attacks of the traffic planners when I insist that the solution to coexistence of the human and automotive population does not lie in the taming and training of people, but in the taming of the motorcar.
