San Jose's downtown development needs courage to go beyond tired formulas and cliches.
"[L]ively, colorful retail centers... work commercially for a time because they look flashy. But it is not a long-range urban strategy.To succeed in the long run, San Jose's downtown must have the daring to go beyond these accepted formulas... San Jose deserves more than cliches for its downtown.
