City And Rural Sprawl Compared

D.J. Tice owns a home in the city and a farm in the country. He compares sprawl in the country versus sprawl in the city.
"My suburban house and my country house are roughly the same size. The estimated market value of the metro house is just over twice that of the farm house (each is better measured as a moderately priced property in its market). Yet, before property tax reform, the homestead tax on the Twin Cities house was more than four times the non-homestead tax on the country place."
