Is CityCenter Just Another Theme on the Strip?

Paul Goldberger pays Las Vegas' CityCenter a visit, and wonders how much different it really is from a fake Paris and the Luxor Pyramid.

Goldberger talks with Jim Golden, the chairman of MGM Resorts International, about the idea behind the project. Golden studied urban planning in college, and wanted CityCenter to "bring smarter planning to the development process in Las Vegas, to expand our boundaries of knowledge."

Unfortunately, says Goldberger, "the result is a kind of gated community of glittering starchitect ambition."
