Michigan Pinning Revitalization Hopes on Batteries

Backed by funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Michigan has invested heavily in setting up factories to make batteries for electric vehicles like the Chevy Volt.
17 vehicle battery plants are in production. Two weeks ago, President Obama attended the groundbreaking ceremony on the first such plant, which is being built in Holland, Michigan:
"This is a symbol of where Michigan is going," Mr. Obama said in Holland. "This is a symbol of where Holland is going. This is a symbol of where America is going." (as reported in the New York Times)
