Saving History In Hackensack

19 July 2001 - 6:00am

Residents in Hackensack, NJ, are critical of new development and want to preserve historic buildings.

"John McRae cringes as construction trucks mow down century-old houses on Clinton Place in northern Hackensack. He seethes when he sees apartment complexes move in.The last straw was in June when developers knocked down a 19th century house next to his home to make way for an eight-unit townhouse complex. Now McRae and his development-weary neighbors want Hackensack to do something to preserve the homes left on their street."
