Traffic planners framing the debate over how Palm Beach County, FL, should respond to an estimated 36 percent population growth by 2025 sketch alternate scenarios for suburban commuters -- local roads swollen to highway proportions, or trains or
Palm Beach County's MPO planners have sketched two scenarios -- one relying on road building, the other imagining a much larger role for public transportation than now exists. The reality, which the MPO will discuss on July 19, will probably be a combination of the two. However the MPO slices it, engineers say the transportation pie won't be big enough to keep drivers from feeling the pressure of population growth.
