This Chronicle column praises President Bush for rejecting the Kyoto Treaty and, in doing so, retaining his political integrity.
Saunders notes that former President Clinton's track-record forgreenhouse gas emissions was somehow overlooked by the American publicas he supported Kyoto and then ignored it. Calling the Kyoto Treaty "asham," Saunders puts the onus on American citizens to do more aboutgreenhouse gas emissions, and lauds Bush for remaining true to hisprinciples. "In mid-June, Koizumi attacked the Bush administration's opposition to Kyoto as "truly deplorable." But at Camp David, Koizumi said he plans to cooperate with Bush's plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions independent of the pact."
