Massachusetts' Smart Growth Efforts

As sprawl spreads through wide swaths of Massachusetts, planners are introducing a variety of smart growth initiatives.
"The initiatives would change the system of strict local control over development, which critics say has allowed towns to impose ever-greater lot sizes, spreading development over millions of acres of open space.Efforts to adopt regional zoning will probably trigger vigorous opposition from many cities and towns loath to yield authority, as well as from some homebuilders and developers resistant to restraints on their plans."
