States Forced to Close Parks

Facing tight budgets, many states are closing or limiting access to their parks and natural resources.

Campgrounds in many states are being forced to close, and employees at state parks have been laid off. Many states are shuttering access to their parks, for which they currently don't have enough money to operate.

"In Colorado, some parks are down to one lone ranger. In Massachusetts, a few swimming ponds are closed for lack of lifeguards. Washington has started asking motorists to donate to state parks when they register their cars; Michigan will do so this fall."

I just read in the latest

I just read in the latest Governing that state parks are huge revenue generators. In that sense, closing them down won't even save money in the immediate term.
