High Schoolers Propose Design Fixes for Neighborhood

The Miami Design District is an emerging urban neighborhood, but in need of some help. Students at the nearby Design and Architecture Senior High School are up to the task.

Writer Beth Dunlop says the students' proposals range from the predictable to the imaginative, including "...suggestions for lacing the street with delicate shade houses or transforming the stretch into 'a day at the beach.''

In almost every case -- whether the plan fell on the pragmatic side or the more poetic -- there was a good baseline understanding of what could be done fueled by something our cities need more of: youthful idealism."
