Sprawl Impacts Water Quality

Tests in New Jersey confirm that as suburbs expand, nearby lakes and streams degrade dramatically.
"State officials say new housing isn't solely to blame, citing such other factors such as agricultural run-off, animal waste, and severe storms and droughts. That's no doubt true, but it's also true the worst drops in water quality occurred near new housing. What's more, waterways beyond the sprawl belt improved in the past seven years."
