Can Mass Demolitions Save Detroit?

In this video report from CNN, Detroit politicians and residents voice both opposition and support for the plan to demolish up to 3,000 abandoned homes and densify remaining housing.

In the video, Mayor Bing proclaims at a press conference, "I am unveiling a plan to demolish 3,000 dangerous residential structures this year, and 10,000 by the end of this term."

A new estimate mentioned in the video says that up to 1/3rd of the city's residential areas are empty.
