Lagos BRT to Spread Throughout Nigeria
10 February 2010 - 10:00am
Officials in Lagos, Nigeria, are calling for the city's successful bus rapid transit system to be expanded to other cities throughout the country.
"The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation, Mr. Kayode Opeifa, said replicating the state's metro transport authority, including the BRT and the State Traffic Management Authority in other states of the federation would drive sanity into the transport system."
Even other countries in Africa are hoping to replicate the success of Lagos' BRT, which has been running for two years. Officials from Ghana have visited Lagos to see the system, and transportation planners in South Africa are busy debuting new BRT systems in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
