Epic Battle Over Hospital in Bethseda
22 December 2009 - 11:00am
The Wall St. Journal looks at the epic struggle between developers, planners and locals over a new hospital that would replace 1/5th of the neighborhoods homes, and the piles of paperwork that result.
Miranda S. Spivack does an admirable job of portraying the everyday struggles that pit developer against locals, involving endless experts, EIRs, and lots of paperwork.
She writes,"Neighborhood land-use battles often turn into marathons that pit neighbor against neighbor and require residents who join the battle to quickly absorb the arcana of land-use law so they can attempt to compete with well-compensated, highly experienced lawyers and the deep-pocket institutions they represent."
