Kaid Benfield offers an overview of the winners of the EPA's 2009 national awards for smart growth achievement.

Winners include the Tempe Transportation Center, the City of Charlotte, Parkside of Old Town in Chicago, and the Envision Lancaster County (PA) comprehensive plan.

All of that only scratches the surface of what's wrong with this study. The idea that complex urban development patterns and human behavior can be meaningfully studied according to one primary criteria — density — is wrong from the start.
