Talking 'Bout a RailVolution

The Urbanophile reports from RailVolution in Boston, including a video interview with John Robert Smith, CEO of Reconnecting America.
Aaron M. Renn, The Urbanophile, writes, "I was able to catch up with John Robert Smith, CEO of Reconnecting America, and he recorded a short two minute video for me. If you only watch one of the videos I post, make it this one. He makes two incredibly important points that are too often overlooked when it comes to the livable cities agenda. The first is that we need to build an urban-small town-rural coalition around a new transportation policy. The other is that these issues are, or should be, non-partisan."

Transport to the Rail
One issue in our community is a lack of mass transit transport to the existing passenger rails. Either you have to drive there and leave your car there, or have someone drive you.
There are small bus routes in the region, but none travel directly the train stations or the bus doesn't come far enough out to service all of the various municipalities in the region. It is all rather convulted.
Because there is a lack of high ridership, their services are limited. But because their services are limited, there is low ridership. The problem is a cyclical one.
There has been talk of reviving passenger rail on an existing track here, but of course, it will require a lot of parties to agree to make the investment.
