This week, San Francisco law makers announced a plan to develop the largest solar power network in the U.S. The plan would cover 140 acres with solar panels, powering 50,000 apartments. If approved and completed, the program would be six times as big as Sacramento's solar program, which is currently the largest in the country. So far, costs of the project have not be fully estimated, but officials are hoping to use a bond process to raise money for the bulk purchase of the solar panels. Experts say that if the plan is approved, the biggest challenge may be finding the sunniest city roof tops for the panels.

Under the proposal, the government would assign the populace the task of counting and mapping dog droppings as a first step to greater penalties for owners who fail to clean up after their mutts.
