Results Of California Court Ruling On High-Speed Rail Debated

4 September 2009 - 9:00am

A California judge rules that the California High Speed Rail Authority's environmental impact report was inadequate. Plaintiffs celebrate ruling as a victory, but the Authority doesn't see it as a setback.

"The Authority failed to recirculate the Final Project EIR [Environmental Impact Report] after learning that the Union Pacific Railroad would not allow high speed trains to share its right of way from San Jose to Gilroy, which means the train will have an impact either on the adjacent Monterey Highway or residents and businesses along the route, the court ruled."
