New Amenity for D.C. Bike Commuters
6 September 2009 - 7:00am
NPR's Ari Shapiro bikes from NPR headquarters to a new D.C. bike storage center outside D.C.'s Union Station. The City of Washington hopes that it will encourage more commuters to use transit and bikes to get to work.
The Bikestation, an unusual, football-shaped building, is scheduled to open in October.
"Once completed, the Bikestation will hold 130 bikes, lockers and a small shop for repairs. Located next to the Metro subway exit at Union Station, the system will provide secure bike storage for commuters who want to cycle through Washington once they arrive from "feeder" cities like Baltimore."
