Slowing Growth In Durham

An activist zoning panel is struggling with builders and the city's planning commission to slow the region's growth, citing overcrowding schools and a deteriorating environment as symptoms of rampant development.
"A little-known advisory panel has stepped out of obscurity to push an aggressive agenda that is changing the way development takes place in Durham. The Durham Zoning Committee is forcing discussion about crowded schools, encouraging developers to work with neighborhood groups, even lobbying against projects its members think will hurt Durham." The area around the NC Research Triangle Park is experiencing one of the fastest growth rates in the nation.
