Earth Day Events Raise Awareness
25 April 2001 - 8:00am
Environmental groups around the world held events to raise public awareness on the 31st annual Earth Day.
"Many environmental groups hope their efforts increased public awareness about the enormous stress that human activities are putting on the natural world, and the need for action to protect the ecosystems that support life on Earth... Amid a growing world population and increased demand for resources, environmentalists face a major challenge convincing people about the importance of conservation and sustainable development, even if it is in humankind's own self-interest."
