Sewer Moratorium Slows Development In Metro Atlanta

Developers have been idling after state environmental officials declared a moratorium on sewer hookups until a facility in north Fulton County can be upgraded.
"Last month state environmental officials declared that no more homes or businesses could hook into sewer pipes that carry waste water into the Big Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility in north Fulton. At least not until Fulton County increases the plant's capacity and stops polluting the Chattahoochee River. Homes and businesses already hooked up to the sewer don't need to worry. But developers building new projects had to scramble and lobby in past weeks to persuade the state to bend its moratorium and grant them permission to use the overflowing sewer plant."
