Planning and Relocation

Hi all,

I'm fairly new to the Urban Planning program at the University of Utah, and I plan on re-locating to the east coast (preferably Pittsburgh) upon graduation. I was wondering if it would be probable to get an entry-level position in urban planning with a bachelors degree and 1 internship within 6 months of arriving in Pittsburgh. Is this even possible? Should I simply take any job offered to me upon arriving in Pittsburgh and wait until a planning position opens up? I don't want to end up working at Costco for 10 years before finding a planning position. Also, what is the competition for entry level planning jobs (assuming normal economic conditions)? I've heard of some job postings receiving 100+ applicants! Any leads, advice, info, etc. you could give me would be very helpful. Thanks!

But what can planners do to support the kind of connections between people I just described? One idea is promoting mixed-use places where there are simply more opportunities for people to run into each other and connect.
