Developing Affordable Housing

An Orange County developer is working to provide affordable housing in one of the nation's most expensive housing markets.
"There must be a dozen easier ways to make money in real estate, but Bill Witte isn't interested. Working out of an office in Irvine, Witte runs The Related Companies of California, one of the largest developers of affordable housing in the state. The company builds, buys and rehabilitates apartments for people who can't afford market rents. It is a gargantuan task." Using federal tax credits and public-private partnerships, the company hopes to make a dent in the state's shortage of afforable housing.
